Raízen Geo Biogás' Bonfim unit, located in Guariba (SP), is one of the largest biogas plants in the world, with an installed capacity of 21 MW. In operation since 2020, the unit stands out for being the first biogas plant to win an energy auction in Brazil, consolidating its pioneering role in the sector.
With a total investment of R$153 million, the plant converts agro-industrial waste, such as vinasse and filter cake, into up to 135,000 MWh of electricity per year. The infrastructure includes two vertical biodigesters of 8,000 m³ each and one horizontal biodigester of 18,000 m³, developed by Geo to maximize production efficiency.
Authorized by CPFL and ANEEL, the unit supplies 96,000 MWh of electricity directly to the grid annually, while the surplus is sold on the free market or negotiated in other contracts.

The Costa Pinto unit, located in Piracicaba/SP, is under construction and is scheduled to open in 2025. With an investment of approximately R$300 million, this plant will have the capacity to process 150 thousand tons of cake and 1.9 million m³ of vinasse annually for the exclusive production of biomethane.
With a production capacity of 26 million Nm³/year of biomethane, the unit will supply renewable gas to Yara Fertilizantes, which will receive 20 thousand m³/day of biomethane, intended for the production of hydrogen and green ammonia.
Volkswagen will also be supplied with 50,000 m³/day, becoming the first automaker in Brazil to use biomethane in its factories.
In addition, the plant will serve other strategic customers in the state of São Paulo, reinforcing the commitment to sustainability and innovation in the use of renewable energy sources.
